What is a Fylgja?
In ancient Norse tradition, every soul was accompanied by a Fylgja—a spirit guardian in animal form that reflected your deepest nature and protected your destiny.
These weren't just symbols. They were living connections between the earthly and the divine, between who you are and who you're meant to become.
Today, this ancient wisdom awakens through art.
Each piece in this collection is hand-painted in Denmark, where the legendary Sun Chariot was discovered—connecting you to thousands of years of Nordic spiritual heritage.

THIS IS ROSA
Rosa came to me as a gift; chosen as my følgesvend – my companion.
She's my studio partner. Every painting is created with her presence – sometimes supervising from her favorite nap place on the couch, sometimes insisting on breaks for forest walks.
She taught me that the sacred isn't separate from daily life. It's woven into ordinary moments. The way she settles onto the studio floor while I paint. The way she knows when it's time to leave the work and return to the forest.
Because she IS Fylgja – the living reminder that our spirit companions walk beside us, not in myth, but here, now, in paint-splattered studios and morning forests.
On my studio wall hangs a quote from Yoko Ono:
"Our Hearts beat in Unison."
It's been there all along, reminding me what Rosa teaches me daily. That this bond between human and animal, between two souls who chose each other, is real.
WE ARE BOUND BY HEART
A Powerful Connection I Feel Every Day
When I first saw Rohhna's elephant Fylgja, I was completely captivated. The combination of the majestic elephant with those incredible blue wings against the shimmering metallic background – it was unlike anything I'd seen before.
I didn't know much about Norse mythology or the concept of a Fylgja as a spirit guardian, but Rohhna explained how these animals represent our inner strength and protection. Now, having this painting in my home, I understand it completely. There's something deeply powerful about looking at this piece – it feels protective, grounding, and inspiring all at once.
The craftsmanship is extraordinary. The metallic leaf catches the light throughout the day, and the vibrant oranges and blues create such energy. You can see the care and skill in every brushstroke. This isn't just a beautiful animal painting – it's a piece of art with real soul and meaning.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have a Barkwald original in my home. It's become a conversation piece that everyone notices, but more importantly, it's become a daily reminder of strength and protection.

I Paint What Sees Me Back
I'm not the kind of artist who paints what I see. I paint what sees me back.
I'm Rohhna – working from Denmark's Odsherred, translating ancient spirit guardian tradition into contemporary art.
Every morning, I walk through forests with Rosa, my true companion and personal Fylgja. Every painting is weeks of meditative practice, love, and intention.
Behind this work is a story of forests, philosophy, and transformation.
I paint an ancient truth: we are bound to certain animals by heart, by soul, by invisible threads that transcend species.
Meet New Fylgja First
When a new spirit guardian painting is complete, I share it here first—before social media, before it's publicly available.
